Prosecutors today dropped charges against a fouth teenager who had been accused of taking part in a brutal gay bashing in the Bronx, leaving the fate of six other alleged members of a homophobic gang in the hands of a grand jury. Dennis Piters, 17, was the latest to be released after nearly three weeks in jail on charges that he was part of the gang that viciously beat a gay man, his older brother and two teenagers early this month. After the Oct. Prosecutors say the gang then attacked another teen and a beat and sodomized a year-old man they believed was romantically linked to the two teenagers.
New York City police are searching for a ninth suspect, accused of participating in a savage night-long gang assault against a man and two teenage boys whom they accused of being gay, authorities said today. A citywide manhunt is in place for Rudy Vargas-Perez, 22, who police say participated in a torture session that involved slashing the victims with box cutters, burning them with cigarettes, sodomizing them with a plunger handle and, in one case, forcing a victim to select the weapon with which he would be beaten — a bat or pipe.
